Social Anthropology, a foundation discipline in the social sciences, seeks to explain and understand cultural and social diversity. This course introduces students to the history of the discipline from the mid-19th century -- its branches, schools, and key contemporary topics in the discipline, including the practice of field research, politics and power, urbanisation and globalisation, kinship and family, belief systems and ritual.
