Tongan Language for Beginners consists of two parts: oral and written. However, the main focus of the course is competency in oral Tongan, i.e., correct pronunciation of words with a clear differentiation between vowel sounds, i.e., long/short non acute and short acute. Additionally, learners are required to do written tests and assignments throughout the duration of the course toward their course work marks. The aim of this course is for learners to gain awareness and a general knowledge of the Tongan language and its background, whilst at the same time to become competent in the everyday usage of basic Tongan. Tongan 101 will be a continuation from Tongan 100 where students will be at a stage to read and comprehend with grammatical understanding of the language both written and oral.
