ʻATENISI SERVICES

This fourth division of the Institute has four departments:

  • Construction and Maintenance
  • Forestry and Livestock
  • Coffee Bar and Canteen
  • Workshop and Recycling Centre

Six people are employed in Construction and Maintenance department. Their tasks include the maintenance of the ʻAtenisi campus, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repair.

Forestry and Livestock is a one-man department, and the task of this person is to look after the timber woods and some 20 beef cattle in the Institute's nearby 20-acre bushland. The timber trees have been planted around the land's perimeter, leaving the bulk of the parcel for livestock.

Two people are employed in the coffee bar and canteen, whose goal is to provide a limited grocery and cafe service for staff and students on a non-profit basis.

Two people are being employed in the Workshop and Recycling department. One is responsible for the Workshop, and the other oversees the Recycling Centre. The Workshop serves the technical needs of the Construction and Maintenance department, while the Recycling Centre helps preserve the Tongatapu environment. Specifically, the Centre crushes scrap metals such as copper, aluminium and brass, and then sells the metal sheets to dealers in New Zealand. Typically, two containers annually are shipped to New Zealand.
